Shown below is our product, Spreadrite. The idea for this product stemmed from a problem identified in the field by one of our founding members. He was working on a 10-mile road resurfacing project utilizing mainline asphalt paving and saw how much time and money were lost when the incorrect spread rate was deposited by the “dump person”.
There are 4 primary benefits of utilizing Spreadrite on mainline asphalt paving projects:
- Increased accuracy by utilizing sensors and a computer system to lay the asphalt windrow.
- Increased efficiency due to trucks being able to offload asphalt as soon as they arrive on site which also increases the number of cycles each truck is able to do per day.
- Decreased labor costs allowing for the “dump person” to be reassigned to another crew or eliminated all together.
- Reduced downtime by eliminating the possibility of material being deposited too heavy or too thin.
One benefit of Spreadrite is the fact that it is completely universal for any belly dump trailer. It requires no fabrication for mounting to the trailer either. The in-cab portion of the system communicates wirelessly with the trailer portion, so no additional wiring must be ran from the tractor to the trailer.
In terms of operation, the system was designed with the truck driver in mind to minimize the amount of distraction. The driver only has to input two values: the paving width and thickness. After that, the driver simply has to press the initialize button and drive at a constant speed. The operator also has manual control from the cab as an added feature for trailers that didn’t have that option from the factory.
